Why Choose a Laptop with an International Keyboard?

For most native English speakers, the most familiar laptop keyboard setup is QWERTY (the first five letters on the upper-left part of the keyboard, in order). For some languages, however, the order changes, e.g. AZERTY is common in France and Belgium, whereas QWERTZ is common in Germany, Austria, and German-speaking cantons in Switzerland.

As Ireland is an attractive country for foreign nationals, it makes sense that many feel more familiar using a laptop with a keyboard setup in their native language. Expats, international students, and multilingual users can all benefit from tech with international keyboard laptops.

Are International Keyboard Laptops Available Refurbished?

Laptops with international keyboards are sometimes available new in Ireland at retailers, but they’re far more easily acquired refurbished from a certified refurbisher such as Wisetek Market. Keep in mind that refurbished isn’t the same as second-hand; the refurbishment process is thorough and the device is restored to as much of an ‘as new’ condition as possible, with any cosmetic flaws indicated so that customers know what to expect.

All Refurbished Laptops (including Dell Refurbished Laptops and Refurbished MacBooks) at Wisetek Market undergo this thorough refurbishment process here in Ireland, and that naturally includes many English keyboard laptops as well as several laptops with foreign language keyboards.

What Countries Are These Keyboards For?

Our international laptops are available for just about anyone, regardless of their most comfortable language for typing. Foreign language laptop keyboards are naturally appealing to native speakers of the language in question, e.g. French AZERTY keyboards for French speakers, QWERTZ for German speakers, and so on. The placement of these letters is done due to the more common use of letters such as A and Z in French and German, respectively.

When purchasing a laptop with a keyboard in a non-English language, most modern operating systems are already compatible with the hardware (keyboard keys) and can be further customised or even changed in Windows or macOS, for example.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between QWERTY, AZERTY, and QWERTZ keyboards? +
The difference between QWERTY, AZERTY, and QWERTZ keyboards goes beyond just the different placement of letters on the keyboard. An English keyboard laptop, for example, will have a QWERTY layout, but French international keyboard laptops will have an AZERTY layout, the M in a different position, as well as specific keys for accents (e.g. é, à, è) and characters more commonly found in French (e.g. €). Likewise, German international keyboard laptops have a QWERTZ layout and specific letters and characters used in German (e.g. Ä, Ö, Ü, ß; Alt Gr).
Can I change the keyboard layout in the settings? +
Foreign laptops with different keyboard layouts from what you may be used to (e.g. English QWERTY) can often be changed in your OS, i.e. Windows or macOS. In your OS, you can configure your settings to recognise whichever language you prefer. This may mean that some of the physical letter keys are no longer representative (e.g. if you press A on a French keyboard, it’s recognised as a Q as found in English keyboards).
Do refurbished international laptops come with a warranty? +
Refurbished international laptops from Wisetek Market come with a complete one-year warranty, and additional warranty protection is available at an extra cost, if desired. Furthermore, all refurbished laptops from Wisetek Market can be returned within 30 days for FREE, but we remain confident you’ll be satisfied with your refurbished laptop!
