The difference between QWERTY, AZERTY, and QWERTZ keyboards goes beyond just the different placement of letters on the keyboard. An English keyboard laptop, for example, will have a QWERTY layout, but French international keyboard laptops will have an AZERTY layout, the M in a different position, as well as specific keys for accents (e.g. é, à, è) and characters more commonly found in French (e.g. €). Likewise, German international keyboard laptops have a QWERTZ layout and specific letters and characters used in German (e.g. Ä, Ö, Ü, ß; Alt Gr).

Can I change the keyboard layout in the settings?

Foreign laptops with different keyboard layouts from what you may be used to (e.g. English QWERTY) can often be changed in your OS, i.e. Windows or macOS. In your OS, you can configure your settings to recognise whichever language you prefer. This may mean that some of the physical letter keys are no longer representative (e.g. if you press A on a French keyboard, it’s recognised as a Q as found in English keyboards).
