Wisetek Store has partnered with Trees on the Land, a cross-border initiative working to establish young native trees across the island of Ireland, on a commitment to plant a tree for every order placed on wisetekstore.com. Since the launch of Wisetek Store in October of 2021, thousands of pieces of high-quality refurbished IT equipment including laptops, phones, tablets, desktops, and other hardware options have been sold to consumers on the site.
Wisetek Store and Trees on the Land are currently in the process of planting 5,000 trees at sites across Co. Cork. One of the sites included is Cork Golf Club, Little Island, where the two organisations and the club recently planted 400 Birch, Scots Pine, Crab Apple, Alder and Oak trees on site. The remaining trees have gone to three separate farm projects and to one Rugby Club in Douglas.
The aim of this tree planting project is to help to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions that contribute to climate change. Trees help to combat climate change by reducing the amount of CO2 in the air, cleaning the air by producing Oxygen and by providing shade from the heat and the cold.
- Sean Sheehan, CEO of Wisetek said “Wisetek is incredibly proud to partner with Trees on the Land on our commitment to plant a tree for every order placed on Wisetek Store. Sustainability is at the heart of Wisetek’s operations, and this new environmental commitment is the latest demonstration of that ethos. We would also like to sincerely thank Trees on the Land and Cork Golf Cub, Little Island for their assistance in planting 400 trees on the club grounds with the Wisetek Store team.”
- Imogen Rabone from Trees on the Land said “We would like to commend Wisetek for their latest commitment to sustainability and we look forward to working with them to reach this goal. At Trees on the Land, our vision is to establish tree cover and woodland in rural and urban areas that will grow for many years and provide a lasting legacy for future generations. Partnerships with private companies that have a commitment to sustainability is an important aspect that allows us to realise our vision”.
The Wisetek Store site was launched to give consumers a channel to buy high quality refurbished equipment from a recognised vendor specialising in technology reuse, without having to pay premium prices for brand new items. The new site also serves as a further demonstration of Wisetek’s core value of sustainability, as it promotes the use of refurbished items, an environmentally friendly alternative to manufacturing new equipment.
Last year, Wisetek recycled over five million pounds of IT materials, including desktop computers, laptops, phones and printers, on behalf of its clients. This resulted in a reduction of over 7 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. Over 150,000 pounds of toxic materials were also diverted from landfill by the company. According to the e-Stewards Global Impact Calculator, this sustainability saving equate to the impact of over 17,600 trees.
Wisetek has grown exponentially since it was established in Cork by Sean Sheehan in 2007, and has expanded its international footprint to include facilities throughout Ireland, the UK, the USA, the Middle East and Thailand.
